The essential difference between J1939 cable and ordinary CAN cable
In the selection of vehicle communication cables, the most common misconception is that "J1939 cables are interchangeable with ordinary CAN cables". Although both seem to be bus communication cables, there are essential differences in their design intentions, performance parameters, and application scenarios. Misuse can not only cause communication failures, but also damage electronic components of the equipment.

In terms of design intention, J1939 cable is a specialized cable designed for SAE J1939 protocol, specifically optimized for high temperature, vibration, and strong interference environments of heavy equipment. The core goal is to ensure communication stability under long-term and high load conditions; Ordinary CAN cables only meet the basic CAN bus communication requirements, with low design standards and without considering the harsh working conditions of heavy equipment.
In terms of performance and scenario, J1939 cable has better shielding effect, impedance stability, and environmental resistance than ordinary CAN cable. It is mainly used in heavy commercial vehicles, engineering machinery, agricultural machinery and other equipment to transmit key data such as power control and fault diagnosis; Ordinary CAN cables are suitable for light load scenarios such as passenger cars and small instruments, and cannot withstand the complex working conditions of heavy equipment. The two cannot be replaced arbitrarily, and precise differentiation is required when selecting.
